Lake Sääksi, officially known as Sääksjärvi, is located in the Uusimaa region near Nurmijärvi and Hyvinkää. It is one of the cleanest and most popular natural lakes in southern Finland for swimming and outdoor recreation. The lake’s clear water and sandy bottom make it a favorite summer destination. Because Sääksi is relatively shallow, it warms up faster than many Finnish lakes. After the ice melts in late April or early May, the surface temperature is around 5–8 °C (41–46 °F). By early summer, it rises to 14–17 °C (57–63 °F), and in July, the warmest month, the lake typically reaches 19–23 °C (66–73 °F). During warm, calm periods, the water can briefly exceed 24 °C (75 °F). By late September, it cools below 10 °C (50 °F), and freezing generally begins in November.
Swimming in Lake Sääksi is allowed and very popular. The water quality is excellent, and the main beach, Sääksin uimaranta, is well maintained with lifeguards and facilities for visitors. The shallow and sandy shoreline makes it safe for families and children. While the water is too cool in spring and autumn for most swimmers, midsummer provides ideal and refreshing conditions. The combination of clear water, warm temperatures, and natural surroundings makes Sääksi one of Uusimaa’s most appealing lakes for swimming.
