Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Hiidenvesi is a large, fragmented lake in the Uusimaa region, spanning several municipalities including Vihti and Lohja. Swimming is widely permissible along its extensive shores and at any local public beaches, a right safeguarded by Finland's Everyman’s Rights. This fundamental principle ensures the public can access and use natural water bodies for recreation without prior permission. Despite facing some challenges with eutrophication in certain bays, official public bathing sites on Hiidenvesi are regularly monitored by municipal environmental health services to ensure the water quality and hygiene remain suitable for swimming during the summer.
The water temperature in Hiidenvesi follows the pronounced seasonal cycle typical of Southern Finnish lakes, with a long period of ice cover. During the cold winter season, generally from December to April, the lake is reliably frozen, with water temperatures beneath the ice remaining consistently near the freezing point, between 0∘C and 4∘C. The most comfortable period for swimming is in the surface layer during July, when sun-warmed bays and shallow areas typically see temperatures ranging from 18∘C to 21∘C. However, due to the lake's size and variable depth, cold upwelling and wind can cause sudden temperature drops. Outside of the warm summer peak, the water is generally too cold for casual bathers.
