Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Pääjärvi, a notable lake located in the Kanta-Häme region, is one of Finland’s best-studied lakes due to the nearby Lammi Biological Station. Swimming is widely permissible along its accessible shores throughout the open-water season, a right guaranteed by the national Everyman’s Rights. This principle ensures the public can access and use waterways for recreational purposes, provided they respect the shoreline environment and privacy regulations. The lake offers numerous swimming opportunities, from public beaches to secluded spots, all benefiting from the generally high quality of the deep lake’s water.
The water temperature of Pääjärvi exhibits typical Southern Finnish seasonality. The lake is generally frozen from December to April/early May, during which the water beneath the ice stabilizes in the cold range of 0∘C to 4∘C. The most comfortable period for swimming occurs during the summer peak. In July and early August, the surface temperature typically warms to a pleasant range of 18∘C to 24∘C in the shallower areas, often exceeding the lower end of the range. Outside of this warm period, the water is cool, mainly attracting dedicated cold-water swimmers.
