*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Lake Nokomis in Wisconsin typically behaves like other small inland lakes in the region, with a wide seasonal swing in surface water temperatures. In spring the lake often runs cold as it thaws, roughly 40–60°F (4–16°C). Summer brings the warmest conditions, with surface temperatures commonly between 68–80°F (20–27°C) on sunny, calm days; shallow bays can warm toward the upper end while deeper water stays cooler. During fall the surface cools back through the 50s–60s°F (10–16°C) as air temperatures drop, and in winter the lake will approach freezing at the surface (32°F / 0°C) and typically ice over in colder months.
Swimming is generally permitted in the open-water season and many people swim there when surface temperatures reach the comfortable range in summer. Local beaches, water quality advisories, and posted rules determine actual access, so checking conditions is important. Cooler spring and fall waters (below about 60°F / 15°C) feel brisk and can increase risk of cold-water shock or rapid loss of body heat; waters below roughly 50°F (10°C) are hazardous for prolonged exposure. Summer’s warmer surface temperatures make swimming pleasant, while deeper water and shaded areas remain noticeably cooler.
