*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Fence Lake in northern Wisconsin follows the seasonal pattern typical of small glacial lakes in the region. Surface temperatures in spring often range from about 40–60°F (4–16°C) as the lake comes out of ice cover; by summer the surface commonly warms to roughly 65–78°F (18–26°C) on warm afternoons, with the warmest readings in July and early August. During fall the surface cools back to near 50–65°F (10–18°C) before ice forms; below the thermocline deeper waters can stay much colder, often 40–50°F (4–10°C) even in summer. In winter the lake is typically ice-covered and water temperatures near the ice edge hover around 32°F (0°C), with slightly warmer conditions a few feet below the surface.
Swimming is generally allowed on Fence Lake as it is a recreational freshwater lake, and many residents and visitors swim there during the summer when surface temperatures are most comfortable. Access and designated swim areas depend on whether shoreline parcels are private or there is a public access site, and local advisories may temporarily restrict swimming for reasons such as water-quality issues (harmful algal blooms), high bacterial counts, or unsafe conditions. Because surface warmth can mask very cold deep water, swimmers should be cautious about sudden depth changes and check current local advisories before entering the water.
