** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Pelican Lake in Wisconsin experiences the seasonal temperature patterns typical of northern inland lakes. In spring the surface water is usually cool, roughly 40–60°F (4–15°C) as the lake mixes and warms. By summer surface temperatures commonly reach about 68–78°F (20–26°C), and on warm, calm days may briefly be a few degrees higher in shallow bays. In fall the surface cools again into the 50–65°F range (10–18°C) as the lake destratifies, and in winter the lake typically drops to near freezing at the surface and often freezes over, with temperatures around 32°F (0°C) or below under ice. Deeper water remains colder year-round and stratification means bottom temperatures can be markedly lower than surface readings in summer.
Swimming is generally allowed during the open-water season where public access or beaches are provided, because summer surface temperatures are warm enough for recreational use. Local rules, beach facilities and water-quality advisories determine specific access and safety measures; swimmers should heed posted signs and avoid swimming when advisories or harmful algal blooms are in effect. Early- and late-season swimming carries hypothermia risk because of cold water, and winter ice cover effectively prohibits normal open-water swimming except for controlled, specialized events with safety support.
