*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Tomahawk Lake in northern Wisconsin experiences pronounced seasonal swings in surface water temperature. In spring the lake commonly ranges from about 40–60°F (4–16°C) as ice melts and the water stratifies; by early summer shallow bays and surface layers typically warm to roughly 60–75°F (16–24°C). Peak summer surface temperatures often reach the low to upper 70s and sometimes into the low 80s Fahrenheit (about 21–28°C) on warm, calm days, while deeper water remains markedly cooler. In autumn the surface cools back toward the 40–60°F (4–16°C) band as turnover occurs, and in winter the lake is usually at or just above freezing under ice cover, roughly 32–39°F (0–4°C) in the water column depending on depth.
Swimming in Tomahawk Lake is generally allowed in the warmer months and at designated public access points and beaches, because summertime surface temperatures frequently reach comfortable levels for recreational swimming. Seasonal and local restrictions can apply, however: swimming is unsafe when the lake is ice-covered, when local advisories warn of high bacteria or harmful algal blooms, or where underwater hazards or strong currents exist. Visitors should use marked swimming areas, heed posted notices, and be mindful that temperature varies with depth and location, so conditions that feel swimmable at a sunny shore can be much colder a few feet down.
