*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Lake Mohawksin, a reservoir in northern Wisconsin near Tomahawk, experiences a wide range of water temperatures through the year because of its northern climate and seasonal overturn. In spring and early fall surface temperatures commonly range from about 40–60°F (4–15°C) as the lake mixes. During the warmest part of summer surface readings typically climb into the mid‑60s to upper‑70s °F (about 18–26°C), and on hot, calm days localized surface areas can reach the low 80s °F (around 27–28°C). In winter the lake generally freezes and water at or just below the ice stays close to 32–39°F (0–4°C); deeper water remains a few degrees warmer but substantially colder than summer levels.
Swimming in Lake Mohawksin is generally allowed in open water during the warmer months, particularly at public access points and designated swimming areas maintained by local authorities. Municipal beaches or parks may open seasonally when water quality and weather conditions are suitable; however, swimmers should heed posted advisories, algae or bacterial warnings, and boating patterns. Cold water outside the summer season and ice cover in winter make swimming unsafe due to hypothermia and drowning risk, so recreational swimming is effectively seasonal and conditional on local management, water clarity, and safety notices.
