*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Big Arbor Vitae Lake in northern Wisconsin typically follows the seasonal temperature patterns of shallow, inland lakes. After ice-out in spring surface temperatures often rise from about 40–65°F (4–18°C) as the lake mixes and warms. In summer the surface commonly reaches its warmest range, roughly 68–78°F (20–26°C), depending on air temperature, wind and depth. By fall the water cools back down to about 50–60°F (10–16°C) as nights shorten and lakes begin to turnover. During winter the lake is usually ice-covered and near freezing at the surface, around 32–39°F (0–4°C), with somewhat warmer, denser water near 39°F (4°C) at greater depths.
Swimming in Big Arbor Vitae Lake is allowed and is a popular summer activity because surface temperatures in July and August often become comfortable for recreational swimming. Public access points and many shoreline residences provide entry to the water, but conditions vary by location; beaches or boat landings may not have lifeguards and aquatic vegetation, sudden drop-offs and cooler subsurface water can pose hazards. Water quality and safety advisories can change seasonally, so swimmers should check local guidance, use common-sense precautions and be mindful that water remains dangerously cold outside the warmer months.
