** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Lake Lenape in New Jersey experiences the seasonal temperature swings typical of small temperate lakes. Surface water in winter often approaches freezing, roughly 32–45°F (0–7°C), with ice possible in cold years. Spring warms through a broad band of about 45–65°F (7–18°C) as stratification begins. Summer surface temperatures commonly reach 70–80°F (21–27°C), and during heat waves can climb into the low 80s (around 28–29°C); deeper water remains noticeably cooler. In autumn the lake cools again to roughly 50–68°F (10–20°C) before overturn mixes the water column.
Swimming opportunities at Lake Lenape depend on local management, seasonal conditions and water-quality monitoring. In most years swimming is permitted in the warmer months when surface temperatures are comfortable (generally above about 70°F/21°C) and when the lake association or municipality has cleared designated beach or open-swim areas after checking for sanitary risks and harmful algal blooms. Swimming is typically prohibited or strongly discouraged when temperatures are low, ice is present, or water-quality or safety advisories are posted, both to protect swimmers and to preserve the lake’s ecological and public-health standards. Always follow posted rules and current advisories before entering the water.
