Swimming in such conditions is perfect for those seeking relaxation and comfort in the water. These waters are often preferred for relaxation in hot weather, as the water temperature does not cool the body significantly. *** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Lake Atkins, located near the town of Atkins in central Arkansas, is a moderate-sized reservoir surrounded by gentle hills and woodlands. Its water temperature varies throughout the year, reflecting both the depth of the lake and the state’s warm, humid climate. In winter, surface temperatures generally range from 7–10 °C (45–50 °F), keeping the water too cold for swimming. During spring, the water begins to warm gradually, reaching around 15–22 °C (59–72 °F) by late April or May. By midsummer, Lake Atkins reaches its warmest period, with surface temperatures averaging 25–30 °C (77–86 °F), while deeper areas remain a few degrees cooler. In autumn, the lake cools again to about 15–20 °C (59–68 °F) as air temperatures decline.
Swimming in Lake Atkins is allowed and most enjoyable during the summer months, from late May through early September, when the water is warm and conditions are calm. The lake’s clean water and gentle slopes along parts of the shoreline make it suitable for recreational swimming and wading. However, it does not have large developed beaches, so most swimming occurs near private properties or informal access points. Outside the warm season, the cooler temperatures discourage swimming, though the lake remains popular for fishing, boating, and relaxation.
