Lake Asalnai follows the typical thermal pattern of small Lithuanian lakes. In spring, surface temperatures usually rise from near freezing to about 4–12 °C (39–54 °F) as ice melts and the water stratifies. By summer, from June through August, shallow areas commonly warm to roughly 17–23 °C (63–73 °F), with the warmest surface patches occasionally reaching the mid‑20s °C (mid‑70s °F) on heatwaves. In autumn the surface cools back to about 8–15 °C (46–59 °F) before winter returns the lake to near‑freezing conditions around 0–4 °C (32–39 °F), often accompanied by ice cover.
Swimming in Lake Asalnai is generally possible and is commonly undertaken in the warmer months because summer surface temperatures are comfortable for bathing.
