** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Lake Berryessa’s surface temperatures vary notably through the year. In winter (December–February) the lake commonly cools to roughly 45–55°F (7–13°C). Spring (March–May) brings gradual warming, often into the mid-50s to mid-60s °F (13–18°C). Peak warmth occurs in summer (June–August) when surface readings typically reach about 68–78°F (20–26°C), though shallow, sunlit bays can get a few degrees warmer on hot days. In autumn (September–November) temperatures generally fall back into the 60s to low 70s °F (15–22°C) range as air temperatures decline. Deeper water remains colder year-round, so conditions can change quickly with depth and location.
Swimming is allowed in many parts of Lake Berryessa because the reservoir is managed for multiple recreational uses, including bathing and boating, but it is subject to local rules and seasonal advisories. Many shorelines and recreation areas permit swimming, yet lifeguards are uncommon and some zones—near the dam, in marina channels, or during water-quality or algal-bloom advisories—are restricted for safety. Cold-water shock, sudden depth changes, submerged hazards, and occasional water-quality issues mean swimmers should check current conditions, wear flotation if uncertain, and exercise caution even when surface temperatures feel comfortable.
