*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
The Lake of Indian Valley Reservoir in northern California typically has cool surface waters that vary by season. In winter the surface often falls to about 35–45°F (2–7°C), spring brings a gradual rise to roughly 45–60°F (7–16°C), and summer surface temperatures commonly reach about 60–75°F (16–24°C) in shallow areas on warm afternoons. By autumn the lake usually cools back to roughly 50–65°F (10–18°C). Deeper water and shaded coves remain noticeably colder year-round, and thermal stratification in summer can create a sharp temperature drop below the warmed surface layer.
Swimming is generally possible at Indian Valley Reservoir because the area is managed for recreation, but opportunities are seasonal and depend on conditions and posted rules. There are often no lifeguards, so swimmers should exercise caution: cold shock from sudden immersion, cold hypothermia risk in deeper water, changing water levels, boat traffic, and occasional water-quality advisories (including algal blooms) affect safety. Local signage and forest or reservoir management updates should be checked before entering the water; when allowed, summer months offer the most comfortable surface temperatures for recreational swimming.
