*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Lake Sonoma is a deep, managed reservoir, so its water temperatures vary with season and depth. Surface temperatures in summer typically run from about 60–75°F (15–24°C), with the warmest readings in late summer near the surface. Spring and fall surface temperatures are commonly in the 50–65°F range (10–18°C), while winter surface temperatures often drop to roughly 45–55°F (7–13°C). Because the lake is relatively deep, colder water persists below the thermocline year‑round, so swimmers and boaters who enter deeper water can encounter much colder temperatures than surface readings indicate.
Swimming at Lake Sonoma is limited and effectively controlled for safety and resource reasons. Recreational swimming is generally allowed only in designated areas and during posted hours, but there are few or no lifeguards and significant restrictions related to water quality, boat traffic, and reservoir operations. Management limits access in places to protect drinking‑water infrastructure and to reduce risks from cold‑water shock, sudden changes in water level, and motorized boats. Visitors should follow on‑site signage and park rules, be aware that even pleasant summer surface temperatures can hide cold depths, and treat open‑water swimming there as a potentially hazardous activity unless specifically permitted and suitably supervised.
