*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information

Emborough Pond is a small, sheltered water body on the edge of the Mendip Hills. Seasonal surface temperatures typically run from about 4–8 °C (39–46 °F) in winter, rising to roughly 6–12 °C (43–54 °F) in spring. In summer the pond can warm to around 14–20 °C (57–68 °F) on bright days, then cool back to roughly 10–16 °C (50–61 °F) in early autumn. As with many shallow upland ponds, temperatures vary quickly with weather, depth and inflow, so readings can change significantly between calm sunny spells and cooler, windy periods.
Swimming at Emborough Pond is generally discouraged and may be prohibited because the site is on private land, lacks lifeguards and can present hazards such as cold water shock, sudden depth changes and submerged obstacles. Water quality can also be variable after heavy rain, so formal bathing is not promoted; anyone considering entering the water should check local notices and property ownership first. The surrounding area does offer pleasant alternatives for visitors, including Mendip Hills walking routes, limestone features and nearby attractions such as Cheddar Gorge and other local reservoirs and nature reserves.
