** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
#Somerset
Cheddar Reservoir, a freshwater supply on the edge of the Mendip Hills in Somerset, tends to be cold for much of the year. Typical surface temperatures range from about 6–12 °C (43–54 °F) in spring, rise to roughly 14–20 °C (57–68 °F) in summer, fall back to 8–14 °C (46–57 °F) in autumn and sit around 3–7 °C (37–45 °F) through winter. These figures fluctuate with weather, depth and wind, and even summer highs can feel chilly compared with coastal waters.
Swimming is generally not permitted at Cheddar Reservoir because it is part of the local water supply and because of safety risks such as cold shock, sudden depth changes and underwater hazards. Some organised, licensed activities like angling or supervised watersports may be allowed at certain times, but informal wild swimming is discouraged or prohibited. Visitors commonly enjoy the surrounding access paths, birdwatching and views, while nearby attractions include the dramatic Cheddar Gorge and caves, the village of Cheddar and wider Mendip Hills for walking and caving.
