*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
#Wiltshire
Fonthill Lake, set within the private Fonthill Estate in Wiltshire, typically runs cold for much of the year. Surface temperatures in winter commonly sit around 2–6 °C (36–43 °F), spring rises to roughly 6–12 °C (43–54 °F), summer surface temperatures can reach about 15–20 °C (59–68 °F) on warmer days, and autumn falls back to near 8–12 °C (46–54 °F). Deeper water remains noticeably colder year-round, and clarity and temperature vary with weather, rainfall and season, so conditions can change quickly.
Swimming is not an official activity at the lake; much of the shoreline is on private land and there are no lifeguards or marked bathing areas. For these reasons — ownership restrictions, hidden underwater hazards, cold water shock and lack of rescue provision — swimming is generally discouraged or undertaken only by experienced, cautious wild swimmers who accept the risks. Visitors more commonly enjoy walks around the estate, views of the Fonthill Abbey remains and landscaped grounds, or visit nearby attractions such as the National Trust gardens at Stourhead and other local country houses.
