** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Lake Noquebay, a medium-sized inland lake in northeastern Wisconsin, shows the typical seasonal variation in surface water temperatures of lakes in the region. In spring (April–May) surface temperatures commonly range from roughly 40–60°F (4–16°C) as the water cools out of winter and slowly warms. By summer (June–August) the surface often reaches comfortable swimming levels, commonly in the mid-70s to low 80s °F (about 24–28°C) on warm days, though cooler mornings and wind-driven mixing can lower that. Early fall (September–October) usually brings a gradual decline to roughly 55–70°F (13–21°C). In winter the lake is usually at or near freezing at the surface (around 32°F, 0°C) under ice cover until spring thaw. Deeper water remains colder year-round and can lag weeks behind surface changes.
Swimming on Lake Noquebay is generally permitted and is a common recreational use at public access points and local beaches because the lake is managed for multiuse recreation. That said, swimmers should adhere to posted rules and seasonal advisories: ice cover in winter makes open-water swimming unsafe, and warm-season water-quality issues such as harmful algal blooms or bacterial advisories may temporarily prohibit swimming. As always, be mindful of temperature shock, wind and waves, and use designated swimming areas when available.
