Shawano Lake in northeastern Wisconsin follows the typical seasonal pattern of temperate inland lakes. In spring (April–May) surface temperatures generally climb from about 40–60°F (4–16°C) as the ice melts and the water stratifies. Summer (June–August) brings the warmest conditions, with surface readings commonly between 65–80°F (18–27°C) and occasional summer afternoons pushing toward the upper end of that range. Fall (September–November) sees a steady cooling to roughly 45–65°F (7–18°C) as turnover begins, and winter months usually leave the lake at or just above freezing under ice cover, around 32–39°F (0–4°C) at the surface.
Swimming is generally allowed and practiced at public access points and beaches because the lake is used for recreation and reaches comfortable temperatures in summer.
