** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
The Aveiro Lagoon (Ria de Aveiro) is a shallow, coastal lagoon system on Portugal’s west coast whose water temperatures reflect both Atlantic influence and local shallows. Seasonal averages typically range from about 10–14 °C (50–57 °F) in winter to 17–23 °C (63–73 °F) in summer, with spring values near 12–18 °C (54–64 °F) and autumn around 14–19 °C (57–66 °F). Shallower channels and enclosed salt pans warm more quickly in sunny months, so sheltered spots can feel several degrees warmer than the open lagoon arms; conversely, tidal exchange with cooler Atlantic waters can lower temperatures, especially after windy or rainy periods.
Swimming in the Ria de Aveiro is generally permitted in designated bathing areas and on nearby beaches, and many popular spots are monitored for water quality during the bathing season. The lagoon’s calm, shallow water makes it attractive for recreational swimming, but users should respect signage and swim only where indicated because some channels are used for navigation, aquaculture or boating and can have stronger currents, boat traffic, or poorer water quality. Lifeguards may be present at main beaches in summer; outside marked zones, swimmers should exercise caution and check local advice before entering the water.
