** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
The Albufeira da Barragem do Sordo is a freshwater reservoir in Vila Real District whose surface temperatures vary with season, weather and depth. Typical winter surface temperatures are around 6–10 °C (43–50 °F) while spring usually warms to approximately 10–16 °C (50–61 °F). In summer the top layers commonly reach 18–24 °C (64–75 °F), making the water most comfortable for swimming, and autumn generally sees a cooling range near 12–18 °C (54–64 °F). These values are approximate: sudden inflows, rain, wind and thermoclines can produce cooler deeper water even in warm months, and cloudy cool spells can push surface readings down.
Swimming at Albufeira da Barragem do Sordo is frequently practiced by locals and visitors, but it is not always formally supervised or regulated like a municipal beach. Access for bathing is generally allowed in many parts of the reservoir because it is a public water body used for recreation, yet local rules, water-quality alerts, reservoir operations (such as releases or maintenance) or safety signage can restrict or discourage swimming at times. Visitors should check on-site notices, avoid areas near infrastructure and strong currents, and be mindful that water temperatures, especially outside summer, can present a risk of cold-water shock.
