** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Allatoona Lake’s surface water temperatures change considerably through the year. In winter the lake commonly falls into the mid-to-upper 30s to around 50 °F (about 2–10 °C). Spring brings warming waters typically in the 50s to lower 70s °F (10–22 °C) as surface layers respond to air temperatures. Summer is when the lake is warmest, with surface readings often in the 70s to mid-80s °F (21–30 °C) and occasionally reaching the upper 80s or low 90s °F (31–33 °C) in shallow, sun-exposed coves. By fall temperatures generally decline back into the 50s and 60s °F (10–20 °C). Deeper zones remain substantially cooler year-round, so swimmers can encounter sharp temperature differences between shallow and deeper water.
Swimming is permitted at Allatoona in many of the lake’s recreation areas and designated beaches because the reservoir is managed for public recreation. However, access is typically limited to posted swim areas rather than unrestricted shorelines because of hazards such as boat traffic, submerged structures, steep drop-offs and variable currents. Seasonal lifeguard coverage, water-quality advisories and local rules vary, so swimmers should use marked beaches, heed posted warnings, and be mindful that cold-season swimming carries a real hypothermia risk while warm-season conditions can produce stronger surface activity and occasional water-quality concerns.
