** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Lake Tussahaw’s surface temperatures follow the typical seasonal pattern for inland reservoirs in central Georgia. In winter months the water often cools into the mid-40s to mid-50s °F (about 7–13 °C), while spring sees a steady rise into the mid-50s to around 70 °F (13–21 °C) as air temperatures warm. In summer the surface commonly reaches the mid-70s to mid-80s °F (roughly 24–29 °C), sometimes higher during heat waves, and in autumn the lake gradually cools back through the 60s to lower 70s °F (about 16–24 °C). These are surface averages; deeper water remains cooler and short-term fluctuations occur with cold fronts or extended warm spells.
Swimming opportunities at Tussahaw are limited and not organized around public sandy beaches. While people do swim from private docks or boats, there are few designated swim areas, no lifeguards, and underwater hazards such as submerged timber and variable depths can present safety risks. Because Tussahaw functions primarily as a reservoir with boating and fishing as common uses, local rules and property access shape whether swimming is permitted at a particular spot. Visitors should check current local guidance, heed posted signs, and prioritize safety equipment and awareness of water conditions before entering the water.
