*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Weiss Lake, located on the Coosa River in northeastern Alabama, is a popular reservoir often called the Crappie Capital of the World. Its water temperatures exhibit a significant swing typical of the region. During the peak summer months, surface temperatures become very warm, often reaching into the high 20s and low 30s Celsius, which is equivalent to the mid-80s to 90∘F range. This makes the lake ideal for a wide array of water activities. In sharp contrast, the winter months see a dramatic cooling, with temperatures dropping considerably, sometimes reaching as low as 4∘C to 10∘C (40∘F to 50∘F), especially in January and February.
Swimming is generally permitted and quite common across Weiss Lake, as the reservoir is managed by Alabama Power for recreation, flood control, and power generation. The lake's good water quality supports recreational activities, and designated areas, such as the protected swimming spot at Slackland Beach, are available for public use. Visitors will also find that many campgrounds and RV parks offer direct, often sandy, access for swimming. However, as is the case with most large reservoirs, swimming is largely at one's own risk, and caution is necessary due to the presence of boat traffic and the potential for submerged stumps and drop-offs.
