*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Svishtov sits on the right bank of the Danube in northern Bulgaria, and the most relevant bathing waters are the river itself and nearby backwaters and small lakes. Typical seasonal surface temperatures for the Danube in this region run roughly 0–4 °C (32–39 °F) in winter, 4–15 °C (39–59 °F) in spring, 20–26 °C (68–79 °F) in summer with occasional peaks up to about 28 °C (82 °F) during very warm spells, and 10–18 °C (50–64 °F) in autumn. Shallow, sheltered lakes and oxbows near Svishtov can warm a few degrees above the river in summer, commonly reaching about 24–28 °C (75–82 °F).
Swimming in and around Svishtov is possible but generally unregulated in many spots; there are areas where bathing is tolerated and others where it is discouraged or formally prohibited. The main reasons for restrictions or caution are strong currents on the main Danube channel, commercial boat traffic, variable water quality and occasional algal blooms, and a lack of lifeguard services on many banks. Municipal authorities issue local guidance and temporary bans after floods or pollution incidents, so swimmers should follow posted signs, choose sheltered backwaters or established municipal bathing sites when available, and be aware that swimming is largely at one’s own risk.
