Kotor Varoš, located in northern Bosnia and Herzegovina, lies on the banks of the Vrbanja River, which flows through the town surrounded by green hills and forests. The river has a mountain origin, which keeps its water fresh and clear throughout the year. In winter, the temperature of the Vrbanja usually ranges between 2 and 5°C, rising in spring to around 10–13°C. During summer, especially in July and August, the water warms up to 18–22°C in calmer sections, while faster currents remain cooler. In autumn, the river gradually cools again to about 10–15°C.
Swimming in the Vrbanja River near Kotor Varoš is possible and popular during the summer months. The water is clean and refreshing, offering a pleasant escape on hot days.
