Bugojno, located in central Bosnia and Herzegovina along the valley of the Vrbas River, is surrounded by mountains, forests, and smaller rivers and lakes that shape its natural landscape. The region’s water bodies are mostly fed by mountain springs, which keeps their temperatures relatively cool throughout the year. In winter, the water temperature in local rivers and lakes is around 2–5°C, rising in spring to about 10–13°C. During summer, especially in July and August, the temperature reaches 18–22°C in calmer sections of the Vrbas and nearby reservoirs. In autumn, it gradually cools again to around 10–15°C.
Swimming in the Bugojno area is allowed and popular in summer when the water becomes comfortable for bathing. The Vrbas River and smaller artificial lakes provide several accessible spots for swimming and recreation. The water is generally clean and clear, though it remains cooler than in lowland areas due to mountain inflows.
