Jablanica lies in the upper valley of the Neretva River, surrounded by mountains and a large reservoir known as Jablanica Lake. The Neretva in this region has a cold and clear mountain character. In winter, water temperatures drop to around 4–7 °C, while in summer they usually rise to 16–20 °C, depending on the section and weather. The river and lake are fed by snowmelt and springs, which keeps the water cool even during heatwaves. The clarity and emerald color of the Neretva attract many visitors for recreation, rafting, and short swims in the warmer months.
Swimming in the Neretva near Jablanica is allowed, but it is best suited for experienced swimmers due to the cold temperature and strong current.
