The town of Olovo in Bosnia and Herzegovina is positioned along the Krivaja River, a major tributary known for its swift flow and cold, clean mountain water. As the Krivaja's source is high in the mountains, its temperature remains consistently low. In winter, the river is extremely cold, typically ranging from 3∘C to 7∘C, often carrying slush ice. Even during the peak of summer, in July and August, the surface temperature warms only modestly, generally reaching between 16∘C and 19∘C.
Swimming in the Krivaja River is generally permitted but only practiced by those accustomed to very cold water, even during summer. The refreshing chill of the water, fed by mountain springs, is attractive on hot days, but it is too cold for casual bathing. While there are informal spots used by locals for cooling off, there are no official, supervised swimming beaches.
