The town of Čapljina is situated in the Herzegovina-Neretva Canton, along the lower stretch of the Neretva River, just before its delta. Unlike its upper course near Konjic, the Neretva here flows through a warmer, lowland area, and its temperature is also influenced by the large hydroelectric system and its proximity to the Adriatic. In the winter, the river is cool but rarely freezes, with temperatures generally between 8∘C and 12∘C. During the peak summer months of July and August, the water warms considerably, reaching comfortable bathing temperatures often between 23∘C and 25∘C.
Swimming in the Neretva River around Čapljina is generally allowed and a highly popular summer activity.
