** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years

*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast

Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.

Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information

Mostar, located in southern Bosnia and Herzegovina, lies on the banks of the Neretva River, one of the country’s most striking and coldest rivers. Originating in the Dinaric Alps, the Neretva carries fresh, turquoise water that remains cool even during the hottest months. In winter, the river’s temperature averages 4–7°C, rising in spring to around 10–13°C. During summer, particularly in July and August, it reaches 18–21°C near Mostar, while deeper currents remain colder. In autumn, the water gradually cools again to about 10–15°C.

Swimming in the Neretva River is possible but demanding because of its low temperature and strong currents. Locals and visitors often swim in designated areas near the Old Bridge and along calmer banks downstream. The water is exceptionally clean and refreshing, offering a unique experience for strong swimmers accustomed to cold mountain water. Many also enjoy jumping from the Old Bridge, a tradition linked to courage and local culture. However, due to the coldness of the river and uneven currents, swimming is safest during warm summer days and in monitored areas.
