** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

The Sarantaporos (Σαραντάπορος) is a mountain-fed river in Epirus whose water temperature reflects altitude, seasonal runoff and shading from steep banks and forest. Typical winter temperatures in sheltered reaches and headwaters can hover around 2–6 °C (36–43 °F) because of snowmelt and cold air; in spring, as flows increase and air warms, surface values commonly range from about 6–12 °C (43–54 °F). In summer the warmest, calmer pools may reach roughly 14–20 °C (57–68 °F), though fast-flowing stretches remain noticeably cooler. Autumn sees a decline, with temperatures often between 8–14 °C (46–57 °F) as precipitation and lower air temperatures cool the river again. Local conditions and depth create variability, so measurements at one spot do not represent the entire river.
Swimming is possible in portions of the Sarantaporos, especially in the summer when still pools are comparatively warm and accessible, but it is not uniformly suitable or safe everywhere. There are no broad prohibitions preventing people from entering the water, yet strong currents, submerged rocks, sudden depth changes and the absence of formal lifeguards mean caution is required; cold shock is also a real risk in early summer or after rain. Visitors are advised to choose calm, shallow sections, check local conditions, and avoid isolated spots during high flow.
