*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

The Thyamis (Θύαμις), known today as the Kalamas River in Epirus, is a mainly mountain-fed river so its water temperature shows marked seasonal variation. In winter months the river typically cools to around 6–10 °C (43–50 °F), while spring brings a gradual rise to roughly 10–16 °C (50–61 °F). Peak summer temperatures in calmer stretches and slower meanders can reach about 18–24 °C (64–75 °F), and autumn usually sees a cooling trend to approximately 14–20 °C (57–68 °F). Local microclimates, recent rainfall, snowmelt and depth all affect these figures, so temperatures can be lower in fast-flowing upper reaches and slightly higher in sunlit pools and the delta area.
Swimming in the Thyamis is possible in many places, especially during summer when water is warmest and flows are lower, but it is not uniformly recommended everywhere. Some sections are shallow and suitable for wading, while others have strong currents, variable depth and submerged hazards that make bathing risky. Water quality can fluctuate after heavy rains or due to agricultural runoff, so swimmers should look for local guidance, observe signage, prefer designated or commonly used swimming spots near the delta where conditions are calmer, and exercise caution regarding currents and temperature differences between sunlit pools and faster channels.
