** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

The Arachthos (Άραχθος) is a mountain-fed river in Epirus whose water temperature reflects elevation, seasonal runoff and human interventions such as reservoirs and dam releases. In winter the river is cold, typically around 4–8 °C (39–46 °F) in most reaches; spring warms as snowmelt and sunshine raise temperatures to roughly 8–14 °C (46–57 °F). During summer the lowest, slow-flowing stretches and pools near Arta can reach about 16–24 °C (61–75 °F), though upland and shaded canyon sections often remain much cooler. Autumn cooling usually yields mid-range temperatures of roughly 10–16 °C (50–61 °F). Local variations are common: depth, flow speed, shading and releases from the Pournari reservoir can make downstream water noticeably colder even in hot weather.
Swimming is possible in many parts of the Arachthos, especially during the warmest months in slow, shallow stretches where temperatures approach the mid-20s Celsius. However swimming is not universally advisable; strong currents, submerged rocks, sudden temperature drops, and restricted zones near dams or hydro facilities make caution essential. Local signage, official restrictions and seasonal flow conditions should be checked, and swimmers should prefer calm, supervised spots or areas known to be safe rather than fast or engineered sections of the river.
