*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

The Drino River in Gjirokastër County is a mostly karst-fed, meandering stream whose water temperature varies with season and flow. During winter months the river is cold, typically around 4–8 °C (39–46 °F). Spring brings warming as snowmelt and rains raise flows and temperatures to roughly 8–14 °C (46–57 °F). In summer the shallow, slower stretches can reach 16–24 °C (61–75 °F), though faster or deeper channels remain noticeably cooler. Autumn sees a gradual cooling back to approximately 12–18 °C (54–64 °F). Local microclimates, depth, shading and recent rainfall can change these values, so spot measurements may differ.
Swimming is commonly practised in the Drino during the warmer months where banks are accessible and currents are calm, but it is condition-dependent rather than universally recommended. There is no widespread blanket ban on swimming, yet safety concerns — cold water shock in shoulder seasons, strong currents after heavy rain, variable depth, and occasional water-quality impacts from upstream agriculture or settlements — mean swimmers should choose calm pools, avoid high flows, and heed local signs or advice. In short, summer swimming is possible in many places, but exercise caution and check local conditions first.
