** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

The River Wye, famed for its scenic beauty as it winds through the Wye Valley and Forest of Dean, experiences significant temperature variations throughout the year. In the winter months, the water can be bitterly cold, often dropping to between 5 and 10∘C (41 to 50∘F). Conversely, during the summer, the river's temperature can reach a more comfortable range of approximately 16 to 20∘C (61 to 68∘F), with parts of the river occasionally exceeding 20∘C during prolonged heatwaves.
Wild swimming in the River Wye is largely an unregulated activity, and while not explicitly banned in all areas, it comes with numerous and serious dangers. The river is prone to quickly changing levels and strong currents, and a major concern is the variable water quality due to pollution, particularly after heavy rainfall. The one exception is 'The Warren' at Hay-on-Wye, which has a Designated Bathing Water status, meaning its water quality is officially monitored during the summer bathing season. Visitors to the area can also explore historic sites such as Tintern Abbey and Goodrich Castle, or enjoy the iconic viewpoint at Symonds Yat Rock.
