*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

The River Taff flows from the Brecon Beacons in South Wales to Cardiff Bay, passing through valleys, forests, and urban landscapes along its course. Its water temperature reflects the cool, temperate Welsh climate and changes notably with the seasons. In winter, the river is cold, averaging around 4–6 °C (39–43 °F), while spring brings a slow rise to 8–10 °C (46–50 °F). During the summer months, the upper stretches may reach 15–17 °C (59–63 °F), though shaded areas and faster currents stay cooler. By autumn, temperatures fall again toward 9–11 °C (48–52 °F), with rainfall and river flow influencing the daily variation.
Swimming in the River Taff is permitted in some areas, though it is best suited to experienced wild swimmers who understand the risks of changing currents and water quality. Popular and safe spots tend to be upstream near Pontypridd and in calmer pools within the Brecon Beacons National Park, where the water is clearer and more sheltered. In Cardiff, swimming is discouraged due to urban runoff and boat traffic. Wetsuits are often used outside midsummer for warmth. The river’s surroundings offer scenic walking and cycling routes, and nearby attractions include Castell Coch, Pontcana Fields, and the lively Cardiff waterfront.
