*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

The River Ogmore flows through the valleys of South Wales before reaching the Bristol Channel near Bridgend, passing through a mix of rural landscapes, woodlands, and small towns. Its water remains cool throughout the year, influenced by rainfall and upland streams feeding it from the hills. In winter, the river typically measures around 4–6 °C (39–43 °F), rising gradually to about 8–10 °C (46–50 °F) in spring. During summer, surface temperatures can reach 15–17 °C (59–63 °F), particularly in slower-moving sections and near pools sheltered from wind. By autumn, the water cools again to near 10 °C (50 °F), creating consistently fresh conditions suitable mainly for hardy swimmers or those in wetsuits.
Swimming in the River Ogmore is permitted, and several spots are known for their clear, scenic settings, especially near Ogmore-by-Sea and upstream toward Merthyr Mawr. The lower stretches are tidal, so swimmers should pay attention to local conditions and currents. Many prefer to visit during calm summer days when the river is gentler and more inviting. Besides swimming, the Ogmore area offers kayaking, fishing, and riverside walks. Nearby attractions include Ogmore Castle, Merthyr Mawr Sand Dunes, and the beaches of Southerndown and Porthcawl, all contributing to the area’s appeal for outdoor recreation.
