** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years

*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast

Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.

Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

The River Teifi, one of Wales’s most beautiful rivers, flows from the Cambrian Mountains through Ceredigion and Carmarthenshire before reaching the sea at Cardigan Bay. Its clear, winding course reflects the cool but mild Welsh climate, with water temperatures that change steadily through the seasons. In winter, the Teifi typically remains between 3 and 6°C (37–43°F), staying cold and fast-moving. By spring, it begins to warm to around 8–11°C (46–52°F), while in midsummer—especially in July and August—the temperature can reach 16–19°C (61–66°F) in calmer stretches. As autumn returns, the river cools again to about 10–12°C (50–54°F), maintaining a refreshing but inviting feel through much of the year.

Swimming in the River Teifi is allowed and widely enjoyed, particularly during the warmer months when the current is gentle and the water clear. The river’s clean flow and deep pools make it one of Wales’s best spots for wild swimming, especially near Cenarth Falls and Llandysul, where calmer sections provide safe entry points. As always, care is needed after rain, when the current can strengthen. The Teifi Valley also offers scenic trails, canoeing, and fishing opportunities, with nearby attractions such as Cilgerran Castle and Cardigan’s coastal landscapes adding to its natural charm.
