** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

The River Severn, as the longest river in Great Britain, experiences significant temperature variations throughout its course, particularly in England. During the summer months (July and August), the water temperature in the lower and middle reaches of the river typically peaks, ranging from approximately 16 to 20∘C (61 to 68∘F). In contrast, winter temperatures (December to February) drop sharply, usually hovering between 4 and 8∘C (39 and 46F). This cold temperature, combined with strong currents and hidden hazards common to large, fast-flowing rivers, makes year-round swimming inherently risky.
For the most part, swimming in the River Severn is generally discouraged or prohibited outside of designated, managed areas due to safety concerns regarding strong undertows, sudden depth changes, and poor water quality in certain areas. Despite this, some popular spots may see unofficial dips, but official guidance almost always cautions against it. While the river itself is a key feature, the surrounding regions offer safer alternatives and attractions, such as the historic cities of Worcester and Gloucester, the Ironbridge Gorge World Heritage Site, and the nearby Cotswolds, providing plenty of dry-land exploration.
