*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
The River Wye flows through the city of Hereford, and its water temperature follows a typical temperate climate pattern. In the depths of winter, the river is very cold, with temperatures dropping to around 5 to 10∘C (41 to 50∘F). During the warmer summer months, the water temperature rises, often reaching between 16 and 20∘C (61 to 68∘F). These upper temperatures make the water more appealing for recreation, although the river's overall flow rate is a constant consideration.
While there is no formal ban on wild swimming near Hereford, it is highly discouraged and carries significant risks. The main concerns are the strong, unpredictable currents, hidden underwater obstacles, and poor water quality, especially after heavy rain due to agricultural run-off and sewage overflows. Despite the picturesque location, authorities caution against swimming in favour of enjoying the river via paddling, rowing, or walking along the banks. In the city, visitors can instead explore the historic Hereford Cathedral, which houses the priceless Mappa Mundi, or visit the Black and White House Museum.
