*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Pontypridd lies along the middle stretch of the River Taff in South Wales, where the river flows through a broad valley surrounded by wooded hills and historic bridges. The water temperature here changes noticeably with the seasons, reflecting both upland influences from the Brecon Beacons and milder air from the south. In winter, the river is typically cold, averaging 4–6 °C (39–43 °F), while in spring it rises slowly to around 8–10 °C (46–50 °F). During summer, the water can reach about 15–17 °C (59–63 °F) in calm, shallow areas, though shaded or fast-moving sections stay cooler. By autumn, temperatures drop again to near 10 °C (50 °F), maintaining a fresh, invigorating character year-round.
Swimming in the River Taff around Pontypridd is permitted, and the area has several spots used by local wild swimmers, especially during warm weather. The water is relatively clean in these mid-valley stretches, but care is needed due to changing depths and occasional strong currents after rain. Wetsuits are common outside midsummer for comfort. The riverside paths and nearby hills make the area ideal for outdoor recreation, including walking and cycling. Attractions close to Pontypridd include Ynysangharad Park, the Pontypridd Lido, and the scenic Taff Trail that follows the river toward Cardiff.
