Swimming in such conditions is possible, but for most people, the time spent in the water should be limited to avoid hypothermia. Even experienced swimmers may feel discomfort if they stay in the water for too long. To improve comfort and safety, a wetsuit can be used. It is important to note that these swimming tips and recommendations apply only in good weather. When the air temperature is below 68°F (20°C), and sometimes even below 77°F (25°C), swimming can be unpleasant even with relatively high water temperatures.

** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

The Neman (Nemunas) is a large, slow-flowing river whose water temperature varies with season and location. In winter the river is often ice-covered and open-water temperatures are close to 0–2 °C (32–36 °F) where not frozen. Spring sees a steady rise, roughly 4–12 °C (39–54 °F) in April–May as snowmelt and cool rains moderate conditions. In summer the main channel and sheltered shallows typically reach about 18–24 °C (64–75 °F), with shallow bays occasionally warming to 25–26 °C (77–79 °F) during heat waves. Autumn brings a decline, moving from 15–10 °C (59–50 °F) in early autumn down toward near-freezing by late November.
Swimming in the Nemunas is possible and commonly practiced at designated beaches and calmer side bays, but it is not universally advisable everywhere along the river. Local regulations, water quality monitoring, boat traffic, strong currents, variable depths and submerged hazards can make some stretches unsafe; municipalities may close bathing areas if bacterial levels are high or during maintenance. For safer swimming choose marked public beaches with lifeguards, check current water-quality reports and observe warning signs and seasonal restrictions.
