*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

The Šešupė, running through southwestern Lithuania, shows a clear seasonal cycle in water temperature. In winter the river is often near freezing, roughly 0–4 °C (32–39.2 °F), while spring sees a gradual rise to about 4–12 °C (39.2–53.6 °F). Summer is when the Šešupė is warmest, typically between 16–24 °C (60.8–75.2 °F) in most places, with shallower, slow-flowing stretches sometimes reaching the upper end of that range on hot days. In autumn temperatures fall again into the 8–14 °C (46.4–57.2 °F) band as cooling and increased rainfall change the flow and heat content.
Swimming in the Šešupė is generally possible and commonly practiced at accessible, calm stretches during the warmer months, but it is subject to local conditions and rules. Municipalities and landowners may post restrictions, and authorities monitor water quality at popular spots—swimming is discouraged or prohibited where pollution, strong currents, submerged hazards, or protected areas present safety or environmental concerns. Cold-season and ice swimming are pursued by enthusiasts but carry significant hypothermia and safety risks and require experience and precautions. In short, summer temperatures make ordinary recreational swimming feasible in many places, while winter and transitional seasons demand caution and local information before entering the water.
