*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

The Merkys is a lowland river in southeastern Lithuania whose water temperature varies strongly with the seasons. In winter months (December–February) surface temperatures commonly sit around 0–4 °C (32–39 °F) and the river can be partially or fully ice-covered. During spring (March–May) the warming trend brings temperatures roughly to 4–12 °C (39–54 °F) as snowmelt and rains increase flow. In summer (June–August) the Merkys is at its warmest, often between about 16–24 °C (61–75 °F) and in warm spells can reach around 25 °C (77 °F). Autumn (September–November) sees cooling waters, typically in the 8–14 °C (46–57 °F) range as air temperatures fall and daylight shortens.
Swimming in the Merkys is commonly practiced in summer and is generally allowed because there are no widespread legal bans on recreational bathing in the river; people swim at informal spots near towns and clear stretches. However, conditions vary locally: the current can be faster in some reaches, depths and submerged obstacles change with weather, and water quality may fluctuate after heavy rain or runoff. There are relatively few supervised or officially monitored beaches on the river, so swimmers are advised to choose calm, well-known sites, observe local signage, and take normal open-water precautions for safety and hygiene.
