** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
The Río Asón, in Cantabria, is a mountain-fed river whose water remains relatively cool year-round because of shaded valleys, springs and frequent rainfall. Typical seasonal surface temperatures are roughly 6–10 °C (43–50 °F) in winter, 8–15 °C (46–59 °F) in spring, 14–22 °C (57–72 °F) in summer and 10–16 °C (50–61 °F) in autumn. Local microclimates and flows change these values: shallow, sun-exposed pools warm more in summer while deeper or fast-flowing sections stay colder. After heavy rain or snowmelt temperatures can drop and currents strengthen, reducing thermal comfort and increasing risk.
Swimming in the Río Asón is possible in many calm pools and near some small waterfalls, but it is not universally recommended without care. There are no blanket bans across the whole river, yet certain stretches lie within protected areas, private land or have signage prohibiting bathing for safety or conservation reasons; water quality can also vary seasonally. Cold temperatures, strong currents, slippery rocks and sudden level changes are the main reasons to avoid casual swimming; visitors should follow local warnings, choose sheltered spots, and be prepared for chilly water even in summer.
