** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
White Iron Lake in Minnesota experiences the typical seasonal swings of northern lakes. During winter months the surface will be at or near freezing, about 32°F (0°C) under ice. In spring the surface gradually climbs from roughly 34–55°F (1–13°C) as the ice melts and the water mixes. By late spring and early summer temperatures commonly range from about 55–68°F (13–20°C), and shallow bays can warm more quickly. Peak summer surface readings often reach roughly 68–77°F (20–25°C) in sheltered areas, while deeper parts of the lake remain noticeably cooler. In autumn the lake cools back toward the 50–60°F (10–15°C) band as the season progresses.
Swimming is generally allowed at White Iron Lake and is a common recreational activity when conditions are favorable because summer surface temperatures reach comfortable levels for bathing. Local public access spots and private shorelines provide places to enter the water, but there are no guarantees of lifeguards or uniform supervision, so swimmers should exercise usual precautions. Cold-water shock is a real hazard in spring and fall, and ice cover in winter makes open-water swimming unsafe. Water quality advisories, posted signage and municipal rules should be checked before swimming, and flotation for weaker swimmers is recommended.
