*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
White Earth Lake’s surface temperature follows a typical northern Minnesota pattern, changing with season, depth and weather. In winter the lake is commonly at or below freezing at the surface (around 32°F / 0°C) under ice cover. During spring thaw surface temperatures rise into the 40s to mid-50s°F (about 4–13°C) as ice melts. By early to mid-summer the water generally warms to the 60s and lower 70s°F (roughly 15–23°C), and in warm, calm summers shallow areas can reach the mid-70s°F (around 24°C) or slightly higher. In autumn the surface cools back into the 50s°F (10–15°C) before refreezing.
Swimming at White Earth Lake is typically possible in the ice-free season because surface temperatures commonly enter a range comfortable for recreational swimming and the lake is accessible to the public in many areas; however, local rules, seasonal water-quality advisories, and conditions such as wind, sudden depth changes or blue‑green algal blooms can affect safety. Winter swimming is unsafe for the general public unless properly equipped and experienced in ice swimming. Visitors should check current local advisories, lifeguard availability, and access rules before entering the water.
