*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Trout Lake in northern Wisconsin experiences marked seasonal variation in surface water temperature. In winter the lake is at or just above freezing, roughly 32–39°F (0–4°C) under ice. Spring warming brings surface temperatures into the 40s–60s°F (4–16°C) by late spring, while summer typically produces the warmest surface readings, often in the mid‑60s to low‑70s°F (about 18–24°C) on calm, sunny days. By fall the surface cools back toward the 40s–60s°F range (about 4–16°C). Deeper water remains substantially colder year‑round, commonly near 39°F (4°C) below the thermocline, so diving or prolonged immersion can feel much chillier than surface measurements imply.
Swimming in Trout Lake is generally permitted and commonly enjoyed from public access points, private shorelines, and resort beaches, but practical swimming opportunities are largely seasonal. Most people find comfortable open‑water swimming only during the warmest weeks of summer when surface temperatures are in the high teens to mid‑20s Celsius. Outside mid‑summer, cold water can pose hypothermia risks and ice cover in winter makes swimming unsafe; brief dips in spring and fall are possible but require caution. Local advisories or posted rules may restrict access occasionally for safety or water‑quality reasons, so check conditions before entering the water.
